Mission Accomplished

In my last entry, I talked about how Innocent would be going after the ‘Original Challenger of Saruman’ title, which is a title the first group to complete all challenge modes of ToO in one continuous run.  Subsequent groups can earn ‘Challenger of Saruman’.  We knew other groups wanted to go after it as well, so it was a bit of a race.  There were a couple hiccups here and there, but all in all it went quite smoothly.  Within 4 hours (including dinner break and other afks), we got our title!

The ‘Original’ team:

I’m feeling very done with ToO now, but we’ll have to go back a time or two to finish off the deeds for other members who were not able to be part of the run.  It’s a great feeling to have this all completed. 🙂

Victory at last!

My raiding alliance Innocent has spent many a night trying to defeat Saruman T2 Challenge Mode. (using the rings is one of my most unfavourite parts of the fight.  I always have to concentrate so hard when watching the order, otherwise my mind will wander off :P)

So many hours of easily getting through phases 1-4 easily only to fail a minute or so into phase 5.  There have been good times when we’ve made progress or beat T2, yet there have been some really low times due to it being such a challenging fight.  It was the only part of the Tower of Orthanc raid that we didn’t beat before the level increase.  But never did our determination to beat the old bastard waver.

We’ve kept on trying after RoR was released whilst people were leveling up.  Our gear wasn’t much better and it was still quite the challenge.  Don’t expect to waltz in at 85 and have ToO to be a cakewalk!  Whilst it’s bitter sweet to have done this post 75, Innocent finally prevailed and got Laurelin server’s first Saruman T2 CM kill!

This meant new horsie time!! Shiiiiiiiny! 😀 (though forgetting to turn graphics up to ultra high.. not so shiny, oops)

Impromptu meeting to show off our horses!  It’s a bit funny, they have synchronised colour changing. 😛

We also got a model of Orthanc (kin homes need more enormous yard slots!!)

It’s pretty huge:

The view from the inside is… interesting:

We were all really pleased and proud to have gotten this done.  Next up:  Original Challenger of Saruman title!

Achievement unlocked!

…well, part of it anyway. 😛

One of the main parts of GW2 is exploration.  Each area has its own map with a certain amount of waypoints, vistas and points of interest to find as well as hearts (pseudo quest hubs) to complete.  Completing maps gives you rewards, but there’s an overarching achievement of getting 100% world exploration.  This is something I aim to do with one character.  There are people who have already finished this, but as you can see, I’m taking my sweet time!  I’m in no rush whatsoever to finish seeing this game any time soon. 🙂

The only part that had me wondering if I’d be able to complete this was the fact that you also have to explore the World vs World map completely.  The supply camps and skill points are no problem no matter who controls what, but the fact that you have to visit every tower and that there are vistas in some of those keeps as well had me frustrated given there’s no way a solo player could take a keep.  There are 3 borderlands that are exact copies and the eternal battleground. I’ve been grabbing some towers here and there when I notice our server controlling some bits of the map.  That’s become more frequent as I think matchups are becoming proper and also my server had some serious WvWers move to it.  During the beginning of the game, it was common to see my server being completely dominated by another.

The other night I happened to notice my server was doing well and controlled, well, everything, so exploring I went!  It was late at night so I rarely ran into any enemy.  Only once was I surprised by 3 enemies and wtfpwnd. It was at a really unfortunate time as well as I was doing the part of a map that was the farthest away from a waypoint.  I luckily picked the right order in which to explore before the enemy started retaking towers and actually finished the entire WvW map!  It feels good to have gotten that out of the way and I’m extremely grateful for the players who took control of the map! *bows*

I don’t completely agree with a PvP area being part of a nearly PvE achievement.  Apparently WvW only contributes 1% to world completion.  I’m not alone in thinking this as there have been threads started with titles such as “Why do I have to play this crap?” on GW forums.  Whilst I’d like to do more WvW, I think I’ll always like PvE more.  And the fact is, anyone going into WvW to explore is taking up a potential valuable spot in the world.  I don’t think this is a problem on a small server like mine, but it could well be on the larger servers that experience hours long queues.  Whilst I’ve just proved you don’t have to group up to get these areas done, I think I was incredibly lucky during a small amount of time that our server was dominating.  Otherwise people may have to rely on luck and grouping to finish this which I don’t agree with.  Also, I highly doubt serious WvWers appreciate people coming into just explore either.

In any case, I’m relieved to have that bit out of the way.  Now I can properly enjoy WvW instead of stressing over falling behind whilst getting a vista or wishing we’d gone to that other tower as I needed its point of interest!

Saruman T2 Complete!

My raid alliance Innocent downed Saruman T2!  It was another server first as well.  It feels really good to have finally done this, especially since morale had been getting low.  We pulled it together, had some pep talks, and finally downed the old guy!  We had 3 deaths in the last phase so no challenge mode.  I still don’t know how we’re gonna get challenge mode done, but at one time T2 seemed pretty impossible, yet we’ve done it now.  So Saruman CM and Fire and Frost CM is all Innocent have remaining, plus going for the clear-in-one-go title. Congrats all!

August Update

So what’s been happening in the world of Lothirieth?  Well, I’ve been renovating a house, finally moving into said house (yay for something newer and more space), went on a holiday to France (oh the lovely sun!) and will be wrapping up my second Dutch language course (maar ik kan nog steeds geen goed Nederlands spreken.  :/  Het is heel moeilijk voor mij.  Maar ik begrijp meer en dat is goed!)

Oh wait, you mean what’s been going on with game stuff? 😉  Well, the backlog of screenshots continues to grow due to some busy months, so I figured I’d do a concise update of some things I’ve won or obtained.  Other than that, I’ve not been playing Lotro all that much.  The combination of bugs, lag, Turbine blatantly displaying its greed and not feeling at all excited about the new expansion has left me with not so much interest.  I’m logging in for raids and a bit for the current festival, but that’s really it.  I feel I mainly want to rant about the state of the game, but I’d rather not have my blog contain mainly that.  So I’m taking the approach of “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all” I guess!

Anyway, stuff! Stuff that’s been going on! Well, I found one super ugly staff!  It just looks a bit too evil…

My warden won the Steed of Bright Days, which means I’m rarely going to see it as I have no intention on playing warden anytime soon. 😛  It lives up to its name of being quite bright, but I like it. 🙂

My loremaster won the loremaster steed.  It’s nice I actually won the class mount for my main, but I have mixed feelings about it.  When I first saw the preview pictures, my thoughts were “Yuck! That’s hideous.”  I wasn’t alone.  It’s been entertaining to read some of the comments on the official forums.  I quite enjoyed something Catburg said:

I can’t decide whether it looks like it’s wearing old lady’s bloomers, busty barmaid’s blouse, or a babygro.

I laughed when I saw I’d won it in a lottery as it seemed so ugly, but it’s not so bad ingame.  The sheer number of scrolls is a bit over the top, the books have poor graphics and your cloak clips with all the stuff on the back (which you can see in the next picture)… but I don’t know.  It’s okay.  I’ll ride it around for a bit, if only for all the stares I get. 😛  It’s entertaining to be sat in Galtrev and see people stop, stare and walk around you. 😀  Oh, you can also see I have a new snazzy cloak. 😉  I got a broken cloak clasp a little while ago but was torn about what to do with it.  The necklaces are clearly the better upgrade, but I’ve gotten the clasp so late ingame that the necklace would be obsolete soon.  The cloak offers a small upgrade but a cool cosmetic that lasts until they pull the plug on the servers.  But my need for my character to be the best it can be is strong.  I finally bit the bullet and just got the darned cloak, even though I feel the need to explain to everyone that yes, I do realise the necklace is better!

Fuzzy books and cloak clippage

I joined an impromptu Barad Guldur run and somehow lucked out and won the chest and leg pieces which happily are now bound to account rather than character.  I’ve lusted after the minstrel armour in the past so went and got that, then immediately slapped it on my runekeeper!

Lastly, I finally got a chestpiece I’ve been looking for!  It dropped in a T1 Saruman and everyone got a chuckle when I had to yell out for the raid leader to just not distribute all the junk as it wasn’t all junk!  My hobbit loves his new outfit.  I think he looks quite dashing! (Though I forgot to put on the matching gloves I have when I took these screenshots. Doh!)

After a fair few nights, lining up for a lot of tries at Shadow Challenge Mode,

many times purposefully wiping in order to preserve the challenge,

Innocent finally prevailed and conquered the challenge mode with a few seconds to spare!

For the first time I actually remembered to get a screenshot of the deed completion popping up on my screen. 😛  We don’t have a video unfortunately due to our camera man not raiding with us that night.  It was such a relief to finally get this done.  I was starting to feel like we were banging our heads on the wall.  It’s quite the stressful fight for an LM as well.  Also your pet won’t stay on the boss even when you take it off assist.  It makes me feel dumb when I notice my bear is sat in the middle of the room doing nothing!  The last thing I want to be paying attention to is if my pet is attacking the boss or not!  Anyway, Innocent is now 3/5 for the challenge modes, which is basically all that is possible until Turbine fixes the Fire and Frost and Saruman fights.

I also received my 3rd(!) first ager.  It’s sorta weird to have what feels like so many to me as never before have I been lucky enough to receive a 1st age token while it’s still currently the best in the game.  I decided to make my rk a new fire stone.  I lucked out with my legacies, but the base stats were a fair bit of a let down.  I don’t get why the devs do this.  You can see the difference between my new stone and my 2nd ager.  It’s going to be hard to give those passives up, but on the whole, the 1st ager is definitely better.  But seriously:  what rk wants agility or parry rating?  or how about might on an LM staff?  Why even bother having these useless things ingame, especially when it deflates players a bit after the elation of getting a new weapon?  Ah well, I’m certainly enjoying the higher dps and menacing tanks even more. 😉

Acid T2 CM

Big congratulations to my raid alliance, Innocent, for completing challenge mode of the Acid Wing in the Tower of Orthanc.  I didn’t sign up last night as I was pretty tired and knew I wouldn’t have the patience for that wing.  (I really don’t like it and I find the challenge so silly.)  Though on our site one of the leaders was kind enough to mention the suggestions and tips I gave in alliance chat, as I was able to watch everything on my boyfriend’s screen. 😀  Thanks Essy! 😀 *hugs*

I was present for our first T2 completion and we’re quite proud of the fact that we don’t burg stack.  I’m also continually amazed by the champ who main tanks a lot of the bosses for us.  This fight is always particularly hard for him given people really need to go all out on aggro.  I dunno how he does it!  Anyway, everyone worked hard and coordinated well and finally got it. Grats again all. 🙂

The video!

DING!! Kindred!

After many, many, many Rift skirmishes, I finally achieved kindred status with the Eldgang! *cheers* 😀

This was the one blight on my kindred list. Very happy I got it done. Skirmish marks are good, but I can use a break from that skirmish now. 😛

It’s Lothirieth, beautifully drawn by the very talented xhii. I love it! ❤ 😀

The deeds go ever on and on

More deed completion. 😉 I’m actually surprised at how doable these are.

With quite a lot of help from my friend Kalantir, I finished Urugarth (those CD deeds are still looking scary though…):

Getting ready to slay some orcs:

Then xhii and I spent a little time farming the last boss of HoM on our LMs. Was quite fun! I highly recommend turning your back to the drop, perform the snow wizard emote, and fall backwards into the boss room. It looks like you’re bungee jumping! 😛 Unfortunately I never caught a good screenshot of it. Lm’s and kitties ready to keel!:

And got my goat!

For a goat it’s very pretty! Though I have to wonder why Lothlorien elves would even go near goats. 😉 But I love the rectangular lamp and the beautiful fabric! ❤

Next goal is the Moria instances. I’m actually fairly close. Just a couple more runs in 16th, Forges and FG…and then more than a few in Skumfil. :/ I’ll get there though!
